October 2017 Update

1 st Bankfoot Boys Brigade are very proud that Calum Heeps gained his Queen’s Badge earlier on in the year. It was a very special occasion. He received his badge from the Lord Lieutenant of Scotland at a service which took place in Blairgowrie Parish Church. Calum is now going on to do his officer’s training.

We are pleased to welcome three new Anchor Boys this year and also have four Company Section boys. But we are looking for more boys to come along and join us so if you know of any who want to have fun, learn new skills and make new friends, then please encourage them to join us on Friday evenings.

I would also like to thank everyone who supported our fundraising concert on 1st October.

BOYS BRIGADE

The Boys Brigade is for boys aged six upwards. Presently we meet on a Friday night from 6pm until 7.30pm and currently all sections are meeting together but that may change depending on numbers we get this year. We offer a whole range of fun activities from art & craft, baking, sports, days out etc as well as the more formal things like learning drill. We also have camps for both Junior Section and Company section boys once a year. We have competitions that run throughout the year such as football, swimming, badminton, unihoc and chess, which is against other companies within the Perth & District Battalion. This is a great way for the boys to meet other boys that they may be in the same class as when they go to secondary school. Please encourage any boys that you know to come along and join us on a Friday night. If you would like to have a chat about Boys Brigade or need any more information, please phone me on 01738 827326.

The Boys Brigade meets on a Friday night in the church and this year our numbers are reasonably healthy, although we are always looking to grow our group. The Company Section (boys from P7 and up) has 16 boys, the Junior Section (P4 to P6) has 11 boys and the Anchors (P1 to P3) has 6 attendees. The boys come from all the villages in the area, with boys from Bankfoot, (and travelling from) Murthly, Stanley, Luncarty and as far as Spittalfield.

A typical night involves a variety of activities: games, including football, unihoc, basketball, table tennis, badminton, dodge ball; crafts for the anchor boys; organisation of events, such as sponsored bike rides; readings and discussions; drill and marching and prayer; plus many more.

Trips, camps and events are organised throughout the year either as a company on our own, or combining with other companies within the Perth and Kinross Battalion. Also all sections take part in events competing against the other companies within the district in disciplines diverse as football, chess, volleyball, bible quiz, drill and orienteering.

As an example of some of the other events we do, the Junior section has joined forces this year with Blairgowrie Company to organise a weekend camp for the boys in March, which the boys always enjoy, and the Company section went to Livingston karting as a trip in the last session.

We are always looking for volunteers to help run any of the sections within the company. If you are interested or feel you can provide something to the running of the boys brigade please drop by on a Friday night or contact us on the number below.

As already stated we are always looking for more boys to come and join us. You can drop by on a Friday at the following times:
Anchor Section         6:00 to 7:00
Junior Section           6:15 to 7:30
Company Section      7:30 to 9:30.
