Holiday Club 2015

Holiday Club 2015       “Polar Explorers”

In August the Bankfoot Church Centre was transformed into a polar base camp and 33 young people went on expedition led by 9 huskies and 7 junior huskies led by chief Husky Karen, our youth worker. We explored the polar regions and God’s big expedition to be a friend of Jesus.

In our Bible stories and activities we learned from the life of Simon Peter that, no matter how many mistakes people make, we should forgive them and Jesus never ever ever ever ever ever ever gives up on us even if we mess up. That Stephen did a lot of ordinary jobs to serve God and 2,000 years later we still know about him because these jobs are really important. That the Ethiopian was from a faraway place and Philip explained to him that the love of God is for the whole wide world. That Paul had been a real baddie but his life was completely changed because of Jesus and he is now in the history books for his travels and writings serving God. That Young Timothy was a good example for all our “explorers” and “huskies” that you are never too young or too old to be part of God’s big expedition.

All summed up nicely in our Polar Explorers theme song.

Never too many mistakes,

nothing we could do,

nothing in this world

that could take us from you.

Never too near or far,

never too young or old,

never too bad, Lord,

you welcome us all.

God’s big expedition was explored in crafts, songs, challenges, science, constructions, drama, jokes, competitions and games and learning from a real polar explorer Colin Souness about the environment and animals and the effects of climate change on them, he encouraged and inspired us all to learn from and move on when we make mistakes and to believe in ourselves and follow our dreams. At the end of the week the weather warmed up and we left the polar base camp to spend a perfect summer evening together with the Redgorton and Stanley holiday club at Active Kids for a fantastic BBQ.

Many thanks to all the leaders who willingly got involved and messy, thank you to everybody who prayed for us and collected cereal boxes, cardboard tubes and milk jugs. Every contribution added something to a memorable week.
